Fire Season Readiness Project: Equipping Penn Valley Families for Wildfire Season

Penn Valley, CA โ€“ As wildfire season approaches, the Penn Valley Family Resource Center, in partnership with Ready Nevada County and the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools, is launching a crucial initiative to ensure local residents are prepared for emergency evacuations. This project will provide essential emergency supplies to lower-income families and individuals with access and functional needs while also offering emergency preparedness education to newer residents who may be unfamiliar with wildfire evacuation protocols.

This initiative directly aligns with the missions of Ready Nevada County, which emphasizes the "Ready, Set, Go!" framework to enhance community resilience, and Partners Family Resource Centers, which provide essential services to support local families in times of need.

The project will focus on collecting and distributing vital emergency evacuation items while increasing public awareness of emergency preparedness. Key activities include:

โ— Collection of emergency evacuation supplies for distribution to vulnerable populations.

โ— Community outreach and education on wildfire preparedness, emphasizing the four critical steps:

1. Find Your Five & Share Your Plan

2. Plan for Your Medical Needs

3. Assemble Go-Bags for You & Your Family

4. Identify Your Evacuation Routes

โ— Collaboration with local agencies to amplify outreach efforts and ensure accurate preparedness guidance.

How the Community Can Help Residents and businesses can contribute by:

โ— Donating essential emergency supplies at designated drop-off locations.

โ— Spreading awareness through social media and community networks.

โ— Volunteering to assist with sorting and distributing supplies.

โ€œWildfire preparedness is a community effort. By providing essential supplies and information, we empower our neighbors to prepare and stay safe in the event of a wildfire or other disaster,โ€ said Hannah Chamberlain, Community Schools Liaison and Project Coordinator. SCOTT W. LAY, SUPERINTENDENT 380 Crown Point Circle Grass Valley, CA 95945 530-478-6400 ยท fax 530-478-6410 โ€œThis initiative ensures that our most vulnerable community members have the resources they need to stay safe and that all local residents are educated about fire season readiness.โ€ She added, โ€œThough I came into this temporary position quickly, my goal was to create an event that can be easily duplicated by other districts and communities, and I think weโ€™ve accomplished that. We can never be too prepared.โ€
